ABOUT BIARMS DIGITAL

WEBSITE: My website was built in 2003. I taught myself how to build a website, mainly through trial and error. It has changed dramatically over the last few years and will continue to change as I develop more efficient ways to bring you quality surfing photographs in quality Cronulla waves. All the images, gif's and artwork have been created using Photoshop.

This website is not sponsored and is totally self funded. My aim is to provide surfers and Bodyboarders with a daily Cronulla surf report both on this site and on Swellnet.

Whilst I tend toward Bodyboarding I was a stand up surfer for most of my earlier years and still havea love of boardriding. I hope to provide a community service to all surfers who visit the Cronulla area.

PHOTOGRAPHY: I have taken photographs for most of my life, since I was 16, when I first first started surfing.

During the Seventies I also dabbled in Super 8mm film and produced several amateur films, one ofwhich is now on DVD. My initial equipment was a Pentax 35mm body with a Tamron 300mm lens, which I also used on my 8mm Movie Camera.

Today I'm fully digital. I started with a Nikon D2H then moved to a D2Xs along with a Nikon 600mm lens which is well suited for Shark Island and Suck Rock/ Voodoo. My second body will be the new Nikon D3. I use both a G4 and G5 Apple Mac's with Photoshop CS3 for processing with 2 external storage drives of 500Gb and 1Tb.

Photographs can be printed up to Poster size and are available at a very reasonable cost to all surfers.During a session I usually shoot between 300-600 photos. So just because you don't see a photo ofyourself on a particular day, and Gallery, doesn't mean I don't have a shot of you.

HOBBIES: Obviously all the above, but I do walk 8-10 Km every day, unless I get in for a Bodyboard session, mostly on those days when I don't shoot.

I'm also involved with the Cronulla RSL Sub Branch as Vice President. We provide support to fellow Veterans and also support several sporting clubs and youth clubs within the Community.

I now have two beautiful grand daughters and sometimes babysit which gives me a great deal of pleasure.

CAREER: I am now retired but during my working career I spent 2 years in National Service of which I spent 13 months serving my country as an Infantry soldier with the 9th Battalion RAR, in Vietnam.

I became a qualified Bricklayer in 1973 and was a licenced Builder in the Shire for over 10 years.

In 1983 I joined the Australian Federal Police (Protective Service) and served for the next 20 years. Most of my career was spent at Sydeny Airport as part of the Counter Terrorist Response Team. I was a qualified Weapons Instructor and a Shift Sergeant. I was heavily involved in the planning and coordination of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and spent 18months as an Inspector and 2IC during that period. I retired at the end of 2003 on medical grounds.

HISTORY: Born in Rockhampton, Queensland, I began surfing at Yeppoon in 1962. I was one of the first local surfers to travel to Agnes Waters. I was taught to shape boards by Bob McTavish at Caloundra in 1964-65. I was the head shaper for GRAHAM Surfboards in Yeppoon until I was called up for National Service in 1968.

Married to the love of my life, NICOLE (second marriage) I have 2 children, Matt and Daughter, Louise.

Also have 3 great step daughters, Val, Liz and Steph.

Lived in Cronulla since 1970.

Hope you enjoy my site.
